Football Mad(ness).

Have you ever wondered why we place so much importance on sport? In fact, you can narrow that down even more; why is so much importance placed on football?

Personally, I find football about as exciting as an empty brown envelope (and that isn’t a particularly exciting thing). I mean, what exactly is there to get excited about??? You have two mobs of grown men, running around a big field who are basically fighting over a bag full of fresh air! Or am I missing something here?

Yet everywhere you go, football is forced down your throat; it is on posters, soft drinks and packaging. It is also in every magazine you look at (except, perhaps ‘People’s Friend’ and a few of the top shelf publications). It all seems to be dramatically overrated to me. And who on Earth ever decided that it was important enough to be attached to our headline news??? Which team won a certain match or what player has pulled his hamstring is hardly on par with the state of our economy or the latest about the War on Terror, is it? It’s a funny old world.

And what about the money they get? It’s absolutely ludicrous! These people live in a totally different world to the rest of us; their annual salaries read like international phone numbers. Their biggest worries are whether they can convince the ref that they have a ‘poorly’ on their shin after falling over or which is the best moisturizer for rosacea. Dear, oh dear.
